Sacraments are guaranteed, divine, intimate, encounter with Jesus, through the Church. The Church calls the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist/First Holy Communion the sacraments of initiation.
God's grace in these sacraments help us to respond to His call to be saints.
In Scripture we see in the Early Church the sacrament of Confirmation:
“Now when the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent them Peter and John, who went down and prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit, for it had not yet fallen upon any of them; they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.”-Acts 8:14-17
Jesus promised before ascending in to heaven, "..behold, I am with you always, until the end of
the age.” (Matthew 28:20), every time a priest celebrates Mass, we get the opportunity to recieve Jesus in Holy Communion. Jesus longs to be with us and be our strength for the journey, Jesus said, " Who ever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst." (John 6:35)
In the Diocese of Phoenix we prepare and recive Confirmation & Eucharist/Holy Communion together. The Sacrament of Confession (Penance/Reconiliation) ordinarly takes place prior to Confirmation and Holy Communion.
