My name is Jacob Chavez and I have just completed my 4th year of seminary at Saint John Vianney in Denver Colorado with three more years to go until ordination. I grew up in Gilbert, Arizona with five brothers and one sister. What drew me into the priesthood were two things: a holy priest and adoration. I met a priest by the name of Fr. Will at my home parish Saint Mary Magdalene. He had an authentic joy and clear love for Christ that was deeply rooted in prayer. After going on my first retreat in my last year of high school it seemed that God had shown me that He was more than just for one day of the week and it was there that I felt the call to the gift of the priesthood. My friend invited me to adoration and we went together on a weekly basis. After three years of prayer, spiritual guidance, and sincere conversations with my friends I finally applied and was accepted. This summer I am privileged to be working with and for you at Ss. Simon and Jude Cathedral. I will be helping out with the youth ministry, participating in the choir, serving at Mass, and working behind the scenes in the parish office. Please pray for me this summer that I may be more conformed to the Sacred Heart.
